With this image, Vincent van Gogh combined a few different elements that related to his night with Mary Kelly as Jack the Ripper, but mainly the object represents a doorknocker, which was also found in the Mary Kelly photo.
The two black and square areas represent the eyes, with a nose between them. Van Gogh added a half circle of darker blue below this to act as the doorknocker handle.
